Family thanks Chinese medicine for aiding sons recovery after organ fails to work

Paul Bradley was so weak after a failed kidney transplant he could only get about in a wheelchair and needed dialysis five times a week.  He had undergone a kidney and liver swap at Birmingham Children’s Hospital in July after he was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder. His new liver began to function but the kidney stubbornly refused to work and doctors warned Paul, nine, and his family that he would need another transplant.

But against the odds, the organ, known as a “sleeping kidney”, suddenly came to life in October, the dialysis at St James’s Hospital in Leeds was slowly reduced and now he has not needed it for a month. Today it is difficult to believe the football-mad youngster has been so ill. His family, however, believe his dramatic improvement could be down not only to conventional medicine but also additional treatment from Dr Han Liping, who practices Chinese medicine in Bradford and York, and used electromagnetic waves to try to kick-start the kidney. Paul’s mother Lynne said her son had returned full-time to school and had even begun football training again, although there was still a long way to go.

His problems had begun 18months ago when she took him to the family GP with what appeared to be flu but she was called later that day to be told he was in renal failure and needed urgent treatment. A rare genetic condition known as hyperoxaluria was diagnosed with symptoms which include organ failure as well as serious bone problems. It appeared the kidney transplant had failed and it was a huge surprise when it showed signs of life. They had turned to Dr Han, a family friend, in the hope that her treatment might give extra help alongside conventional medicine. Mrs Bradley said: “His kidney is not 100 per cent but he is not on dialysis any more”.

“We don’t know if the treatment has made the difference and we would never go against anything the Western doctors advise.  But I don’t think he would have been as well without Dr Han and I wouldn’t stop bringing him to see her, although I wouldn’t say it’s a miracle cure for kidney patients because it is not."

“Dr Han was interested in helping him because we knew he had a healthy kidney – it just wasn’t working.  He was so active before but then his life just stopped."

“He was angry, sad and scared just like the rest of us and couldn’t believe what had happened to him."
