PhD MScAc MBAcC MAFN
Alison began her work at the York Clinic 12 years ago, during her pre-registration year of practice. She graduated with a Diploma from the Northern College of Acupuncture, York in 1999, and in 2000 achieved a Master of Science in Acupuncture (MScAc) with distinction. In 2006 she graduated from the University of York with a PhD in Health Sciences as applied to Acupuncture, and has participated in all the recent trials of acupuncture here in York.
Alison has much experience and enjoys treating a diverse range of physical and emotional conditions including migraine headache, digestive problems, chronic fatigue, insomnia, anxiety and depression. She also uses acupuncture to give relief from the side-effects of conventional treatments and help patients regain a sense of inner calm.
Her area of special interest is the treatment of gynaecological and obstetric conditions, male and female infertility, and supporting natural childbirth. She has had much success treating menstrual irregularities like PCOS, endometriosis and heavy menstrual bleeding; using acupuncture to support IVF; and as a way to enhance fertility and help couples conceive naturally.
Alison also very much enjoys being able to offer safe, natural, drug-free relief from the multitude of problems that can arise during pregnancy: from morning sickness, to oedema and symphis pubic pain. She is often called on to gently turn breech babies, or provide women with a relaxing alternative to medical induction. And in the last 3-5 weeks of pregancy, weekly acupuncture is a great way to help mums-to-be prepare for a good, natural birth by gently softening the cervix and ensuring the baby is in the optimum position for birth. An hours Acupressure in Labour training course provides expectant couples witth the skills to give effective pain relief and complements pre-birth acupuncture treatment beautifully.
Alison uses very fine needles and gentle needling techniques. She is a member of the British Acupuncture Council (MBAcC) and Acupuncture Fertility Network (AFN). The AFN is a professional special interest group dedicated to supporting those with fertility issues.
Other experience:Alison has taught at the Northern College of Acupuncture to Masters level, co-represented the British Acupuncture Council at regional level, and currently teaches an acupuncture familiarization course at Hull York Medical School.
