Mike has been a registered acupuncturist for over twenty years and has extensive clinical experience. He graduated from the College of Traditional Acupuncture in 1987, and lived and practised in East Yorkshire until 2004 when he moved to York.
He is a former member of the board of directors of The Northern College of Acupuncture, and has supervised students from that college in their final year of study.
Before studying Chinese Medicine, Mike was a college lecturer and manager, specialising in sports science and anatomy and physiology. He has an honours degree in Biology and Physical Education from Loughborough University and a master's degree in Educational Administration from Birmingham University.
Mike practises classical Chinese acupuncture which involves the diagnosis and treatment of patients from both a constitutional and symptomatic point of view. This individually centred approach is extremely effective for a wide range of medical conditions, including emotional problems such as depression, anxiety and the symptoms of stress. Other conditions such as migraine, insomnia, digestive and bowel disorders, heart and circulatory and gynaecological problems are also very receptive to treatment. Patients may also be given dietary and lifestyle advice to enhance the effects of treatment and speed up recovery.
Mike also has a detailed knowledge and understanding of the nature of musculo-skeletal problems and sports injuries with a proven track record in treating conditions such as lower back pain, neck and shoulder problems, tennis elbow, knee pain and ankle problems. He is also able to advise patients on the correct methods of management and rehabilitation of injuries.
Mike has attended numerous acupuncture seminars and courses covering a wide range of specialist subjects and enjoys giving talks to interested groups about acupuncture and Chinese medicine. He has participated in clinical research trials run by the University of York which investigated the effects of acupuncture on osteoarthritis of the knee (2006), depression (2007) and irritable bowel syndrome (2008/9).
