Acupuncture and Sports Massage in York  – PG Dip AC, MBAcC, IIST, IIST

I am qualified and experienced in both acupuncture and sports massage. I first qualified in therapeutic massage in 1984, and have since gone on to qualify in acupressure massage and sports massage. I trained at the Fulcrum College and qualified with a merit.

Acupuncture
I became interested in acupuncture after having treatment for a back problem. I went on to do a four-year course at the Northern College of Acupuncture, qualifying in March 2001, with a Post Graduate Diploma validated by the University of Wales. I use sports massage and acupuncture for my patients with a wide range of health concerns.  In some cases I use both acupuncture and massage together.

Sports massage
Sports Massage is for anyone with a musculoskeletal problem, regardless of age or fitness level.  Minor everyday injuries are by far the most common musculoskeletal problems. These injuries can be extremely painful and may seriously affect a person’s occupation, sport or quality of life. Furthermore, if not treated properly at an early stage, a minor injury can sometimes lead to a more serious condition in the long term. Sports massage is the application of massage and stretch techniques to specific localised areas of muscle and connective tissues. It is a deeper type of massage designed to get down between muscle fibres, breaking up adhesions and fibrous tissue that may have built up during injury, repetitive use or sports training.

Pre-Event massage
I also offer pre-event massage, which warms the muscles, preparing the body for activity. It can increase circulation, flexibility and stimulate the nervous system, preparing you for the task ahead. Post-event massage sports massage can greatly reduce muscle soreness after a sporting event. Minor injuries can be detected and treated at an early stage.

Pregnancy massage
I also offer massage during pregnancy, aiming to improve circulation, digestion, sleep and posture.  It may also reduce stress, tension and anxiety.

Kinesio Taping
Kinesio taping is the definitive rehabilitative taping method used within the international community. Kinesiotex tape has the ability to re-educate the neuromuscular system, enhance performance, prevent injury, promote healing and circulation, and support the muscles and joints. For more details on kinesio taping visit www.kinesiotaping.com

Cosmetic acupuncture
I am now offering a range of anti-aging facial treatments. For more information, please call the clinic or myself during normal working hours.

PhysioPod™ DEEP OSCILLATION® massage

PhysioPod™ DEEP OSCILLATION® is a gentle form of massage therapy. Using a DEEP OSCILLATION® massage machine, I can treat people in the acute (i.e. early and most painful) stages of an injury. The machine allows her to work on tissue up to 8cm below the skin, without needing to apply the level of pressure normally used in a deep tissue sports massage. It is particularly effective in treating recent and painful injuries that are sensitive to touch. For the same reason, it is appropriate for elderly people and others with delicate skin.
