Dipl.-Psych. Dr. rer. nat. CPsychol
Dr. Robina Böhnke is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist offering counselling for individuals, couples, and families, as well as coaching and stress management courses. She specialises in stress, depression, and anxiety and works within an integrative resource-oriented framework, where counsellor/coach and client combine their unique resources, strengths and perspectives to find solutions that work, tailored to the client’s particular situation. The resource-oriented approach combines techniques and tools from other therapeutic models, mainly from solution-focused brief therapy, as well as systemic therapy. Robina also integrates techniques and tools from other approaches, for example from cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and hypnotherapy. All those approaches are evidence-based, meaning that research has shown that they are effective in treating a range of different issues, from mental health problems to relationship issues.
Robina completed her education and training in Counselling Psychology in Germany and is registered as a Counselling Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). The HCPC regulates all Psychologists who work in the UK and makes sure that their education and training are of the highest standard. She is also a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS), which requires relevant education and training of at least six years duration. She also has a research doctorate degree in Psychobiology and spent three years researching the biological and psychological mechanisms of stress, making acute and chronic stress and its associated symptoms and mental health problems one of her specialist areas.
Robina’s approach to Counselling & Coaching
The resource-oriented approach to counselling and coaching puts you and your individual needs and circumstances at the centre. Everything, including the number, length and spacing of sessions it completely tailored to your wishes. Sessions can also take place online and I can also provide between-session support via emails or texts as required.
Counselling and Coaching following the resource-oriented approach takes between six and twelve sessions for most people. I recommend 80-minute sessions every two to four weeks instead of the usual weekly hour-long sessions. This allows both of us to properly reflect on what has happened in-between sessions, work on creating solutions and practice new ways of thinking, as well as plan what to do until the next session. Some clients prefer meeting more regularly at the beginning of the process and spacing it out more at the end, but this is completely up to you.
What counselling can help you with
Counselling can help you if you feel emotionally or mentally unwell. This may affect one or more areas of your life, such as your ability to manage your personal life, the quality of your relationships and your social life, or your work. You may already have seen a GP and have a diagnosis of a mental health problem, such as depression or anxiety, but this is not a requirement to come and see me.
Counselling can also help you if you feel dissatisfied with your life, stuck, overwhelmed or lost and want to make changes, but don’t know where to start or what options you have. You may also just want someone to help you cope with emotions, such as anger or grief, or with situations you have no control over.
With my training in hypnotherapy, I can also support you with making life-style changes, such as quitting smoking or loosing weight, as well as dealing with psychosomatic issues, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), pain or if you have sleeping problems. I always use hypnotherapy as an addition to other therapy, counselling and coaching tools relevant to tackling your specific problems.
I also offer relationship, couples, and family counselling and therapy to help you deal with problems within your family or partnership. Your family or partner may want to join you to make changes together. However, in some cases, others may not see it the same way you do and may not want to come along. Both of those scenarios are possible and we may still be able to find solutions that work for you while taking the perspective of those not present into account.
What coaching can help you with
In line with my training and experience as a Psychologist, I offer developmental coaching, which focuses on facilitating learning and growth of my clients. I specialise in stress relief, stress management and its associated symptoms. Chronic stress can lead to a host of medical and psychological problems, so learning to manage and avoid it can help prevent a range of other issues that may affect you later in life. Through my training in systemic therapy, I can also support you find solutions for issues you have with others at your workplace, for example your colleagues, employees and managers.
Stress management courses
I am excited to be able to offer stress management courses this year. The courses help you to develop a range of vital skills to reduce and manage stressful situations within your work/studies and/or in your personal and social life. The courses are very practical and focus on helping to implement changes in everyday life, as well as on developing skills in managing and avoiding stress in a wide range of situations.
