Louise Coughlin

Louise offers therapy based on three different models: Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT); Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT); and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). Your circumstances will determine which therapy is best for you.

Louise has worked in a range of settings including, NHS, private hospitals, the prison service and in private practice. This has given her a variety of skills to help individuals deal with a wide range of difficulties.

She has experience of working with adults with the following presenting concerns:

  • Low self-esteem

  • Overcoming trauma

  • Problem solving skills

  • Phobias

  • Anger management skills

  • Performance anxiety (such as professional speakers, actors and musicians)

  • Anxiety

  • Post traumatic stress

  • Stress

  • Sexual abuse

  • Physical abuse

  • Emotional abuse

  • Relationship difficulties

  • Psychoeducation on personality disorder

We may find it helpful to talk problems through with someone close to us, but sometimes friends and family can not help and we need to speak to a professional therapist. Louise understands that it can be hard to take the first step toward asking for help. Not knowing what to expect in therapy can be worrying. Louise will always aim to create a sense of safety where you can be open about what you are struggling with. Many clients Louise works with struggle to be kind to themselves. Louise works from the basis that helping people develop self-kindness will guide them towards ways to manage their suffering. Louise will be compassionate and non judgemental, giving you the safety to be open about your concerns.

"Often clients say that they are a fraud because they have not had ‘big traumas’. If someone is struggling then they are not a fraud. Events impact us all in different ways. I want to give a space where people can be truly honest about themselves. A place with no judgement, only support."
