Andy Dunn

Chartered Clinical Psychologist
BSc (Hons), BEng (Hons), DClinPsy, CPsychol

Hello, I’m Andy. I am a highly qualified and experienced clinical psychologist, and I am based at York Clinic on Fridays. I trained at the University of Birmingham, completing a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2004. As well as working in private practice I also work in an NHS mental health service, and I have done so for many years. I offer a safe space for you to talk about the difficulties that you are experiencing, and I use my knowledge, training and experience to help us understand what has led to these difficulties. This understanding (known as a formulation) guides the psychological therapy that we decide on, so that any intervention is tailor made to you as an individual. This is always done in collaboration with you, with compassion and respect.

I draw on a wide range of evidence based psychological therapies – these include third wave Cognitive Behaviour Therapies (CBT), such as Mindfulness Based Approaches (MBCT/MBSR) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). I also have further training in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), which offers a detailed way of making sense of current or past relationship patterns.

I offer individual therapy with adults (of both working age and post retirement age) with a wide range of difficulties, including:

·        Anxiety (social anxiety, generalised anxiety, panic, phobias)

·        Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

·        Depression, low mood or feeling numb

·        Trauma (including sexual, physical and emotional abuse and/or neglect)

·        Loss, grief and bereavement

·        Work related stress and anxiety

·        Low self-esteem and self-worth

·        Coping with illness, living well with dementia

·        Current relationship problems or finding yourself in problematic relationships

I am registered with the Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC), which is the professional regulatory body for practitioner psychologists in the UK. I am also a chartered member of the British Psychological Society (BPS).

Fees can vary according to the setting of the work and can be discussed on enquiry. I am registered with major insurance companies such as AXA, Aviva and Vitality Health, which may cover the cost of treatment.  Please contact me with any enquiries.
