Lorna Cordwell

I offer Hypno-psychotherapy from The York Clinic. Hypno-Psychotherapy is considered the gold standard of hypnotherapy as it involves extended training in blending psychotherapy and hypnosis.   My training, starting in 1979, includes a Batchelor’s Degree in Psychology from the London School of Economics (University of London), a Masters Level UKCP Accredited Advanced Diploma in Hypnosis and Psychotherapy from the National College of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy, and a Masters Degree in Psychological Research (specialising in Hypnosis) from the University of Hull, a UK centre of excellence in hypnosis research.

I have been a therapist for over 30 years and have worked in major clinics around the country, including the Sussex Cancer Institute, and I still maintain my practice in Harley Street in London one day a week. I am very pleased to be part of the highly qualified and respected team which offers Integrative Healthcare at the York Clinic.

I use an integrative evidence based approach. This means that I blend hypnosis with models and skills from CBT, Psychodynamic and others, and I will always tailor a treatment plan to you.  Your plan will never simply be a hypnosis script read from a textbook, but will involve a full consultation first where you have the chance to talk through what’s been happening for you, and importantly how you would like things to be.  We will agree a plan together – therapy is usually short term- but rarely will this be one session as all the evidence shows that an approach over a short course of sessions is what is necessary to be effective.

Hypnosis, when integrated with psychotherapy, has a very strong evidence base for success with the type of issues that can be affecting many of us. Chronic or unexplained pain, insomnia, general anxiety, social anxiety, stress, panic attacks, fears and phobias, IBS, OCD, can all be helped.

I am currently Head of Counselling for Chrysalis Courses, the largest trainer of hypnotherapy and psychotherapy courses in the UK, I researched and wrote the Level 5 course we teach there, and I have, over the past 12 years, trained hundreds of students to become therapists. I also train  and assess for the UK College of Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy, a prestigious British Psychological Society accredited course popular with psychologists, doctors, nurses and therapists who wish to add hypnosis to their skills.  As well as my training work, I have supervised a select group of therapists for several years.

You can read more information about hypnosis, about my therapy and about me on my website at www.hypno-london.com and do feel free to email me if you have any questions or if you are ready to book at appointment. You will not find testimonials on my website, as my professional registration prohibits this and views seeking client testimonials as unethical. I am a Fellow of the Hypnotherapy Society, an Accredited member of UKCP and a Registrant of the National Counselling Society.  I am BUPA registered and available for appointments at York Clinic on Mondays.
