Hello, my name is Simon Baverstock and I am a UKCP registered, accredited psychotherapist. I base my practice on a Gestalt, developmental model. Psychotherapy is a powerful tool. Talking about yourself or issues in an environment of warmth and respect can help bring lasting change or healing when you are aware of aspects of your life you cannot change alone.
I work with people who have a wide range of experiences which can include but are not limited to PTSD, anxiety, low self esteem, bereavement, family issues, anger, oppressive or obsessive behaviours, alcoholism, drug use, domestic and sexual violence, depression, sexual abuse, panic attacks and end of life.
I welcome and have experience working with people with experience of psychosis and Dissociative Identity Disorder.
I provide a safe and confidential* environment of warmth and respect to explore subjects of your choice at your pace. *Three criteria where I cannot maintain confidentiality are where I believe your life or someone else’s life is in danger; when directed to break confidentiality by a court of law; or when information disclosed during a therapy session is of such gravity that confidentiality cannot reasonably be expected to be maintained, for example, in cases of fraud or crime.
People thrive in environments of safety, nourishment, appropriate challenge, truth, trust and consent. I co-create an environment that facilitates personal exploration, change and growth.
What happens next?
You can contact me by phone, email or text and we’ll arrange a convenient time to meet for an initial session to explore our compatibility, how I might support you and what you are seeking from therapy.
We proceed with a contract to meet, usually for another five sessions, at the same time each week to work at your pace on the subjects of your choice.
After six weeks we will review the journey; what has worked, what you have noticed, what we might change, and contract for a further six weeks and so on until you feel you have achieved what you set out for.
British Sign Language: I work with a Level 6 Interpreter in York (Level 2 in Counselling) for those who use B.S.L. Please contact me for details.
Training, qualifications & experience
I began working with clients in 2012 in my fourth year of postgraduate training for a diploma in Integrative Relational Psychotherapy at Scarborough Counselling and Psychotherapy Training Institute.
In 2014 I co-founded Northern Lights Therapy Service in Scarborough which specializes in the treatment of adults who have profound childhood experience of sexual abuse, neglect, domestic and/or sexual violence, trauma and exploitation. I remain a director there.
Prior to my psychotherapy training I gained a B.A. (Honours) degree in Theology and Christian ministry in 1997 and worked in drug and alcohol rehabilitation and youth work with periods in churches and the leisure and manufacturing industries.
I charge £44 for each session of sixty minutes’ duration.
